I drew the above on my chalkboard the night we moved in, and haven't seen one (inside) since! Outside, however, is another story. These nighttime-loving pests scuttle along the sidewalks with surprising speed. I literally dreaded taking Susie out for bathroom breaks after sunset the first week or so. I overcame my fear in order for you to experience Atlanta as I have. You're welcome.
We were only in Atlanta for a few days before driving back to Indianapolis for Bryan's graduation. Susie spent the weekend at "The Park Pet Retreat," where she got to play and sleep in a big room full of other doggies. They are a "cage free" boarding facility where the dogs are separated into size-similar groups and kept in a large open room with fake trees, fire hydrants, and "park rangers" (employees) who attend to them 24/7. You can also view the dogs via four webcams, day or night. I'll admit it... I have serious issues boarding Susie.
Speaking of Susie, here she is, resting amidst the rubble of the master bedroom.
While Susie rested, Kitty was busy helping me put away clothes.Bryan has been working for the past week and a half, and has been busy busy busy. I accepted a position in the CVICU (Cardiovascular ICU) at St. Joseph's Hospital on June 23rd, but have been waiting for my nursing license from the state of Georgia to begin working. The great thing for both of us is the close proximity of the hospitals/medical office! Bryan's office and the hospital I will be working at are only 1.3 miles from our apartment!
We haven't been out to enjoy any of the many attractions in Atlanta yet, but think we may visit the aquarium this weekend.
Before I go... here are some Atlanta/Cockroach facts for you to enjoy:
-Cockroaches are known assassins of their roommate, the bedbug.
-The record for eating live cockroaches is held by Ken Edwards of Derbyshire, England. In 2001 he ate 36 hissing Madagascar roaches in one minute.
-Cockroaches can survive for at least seven days (and up to a month in some cases) without a head.
-Georgia is the nation's number one producer of the three P's: Peanuts, pecans, and peaches.
-In Gainesville, Georgia, the chicken capital of the world, it is illegal to eat chicken with a fork.
-The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta is the world's largest indoor aquarium, with more than 8 million gallons of water, 100,000 animals and 500 species.
-The city was originally named Terminus and then Marthaville before finally settling on Atlanta.
